History of the child care centre

Bob Treasure was born on the site in 1915 and later donated the land for use by the centre - hence the name Treasure Island Child Care Centre.

Planning of the community-based centre started in early 1986 by community members and officers from the state and local governments.

While the centre opened on May 13, 1987 and was licensed for 43 families daily, Judyth Watson officially opened the centre at a ceremony on March 26, 1988.

Our Committee

We have a management committee made up of parents who volunteer to ensure Treasure Island Child Care Centre retains its place in the not-for-profit sector.

Sun smart centre

Working with the Cancer Council of WA, Treasure Island has achieved the status of being a sun smart service. This means all children in our care must have a legionnaires or broad-brimmed hat, sunscreen and appropriate clothing.

The UV rating is displayed in the foyer each day and staff must program indoor and outdoor activities around the recommended guidelines for sun exposure.

Nutrition

Paulette, our experienced food co-ordinator, has successfully completed the food safe and food handler's course.

She has also had training in menu planning and is able to meet the needs of all children, particularly those with allergies, from different cultural backgrounds or with individual family needs.

Kitchen

Our kitchen has been renovated and upgraded. It meets the recommendations for occupation health and safety and the council guidelines for health and hygiene.

The meals have a variety of colours, textures and tastes and eating times are considered special for the children.

Meals

We serve morning, afternoon tea and lunch. Click here for an example of our menu.

After school care petition

More after school services are urgently needed as only two centres offer this type of care in the area.

Please download our petition here and help us lobby on behalf of parents who need this type of care.
